In this meditation, we'll practice strategies to embrace the unknown in life, even when it scares us.
Let's start by finding a comfortable posture. This could be sitting down, lying down or standing. It feels safe to do so, you can close your eyes. We'll take one deep breath together to further settle in. So breathing in through the nose.
Slowly out through the mouth. Inviting the jaw to relax. As well as any tension that might be in the face. Inviting the shoulders to be at ease. As well as the hands and the belly.
One of the quickest ways we can soften and relax the mind is by softening and relaxing the body. They are deeply connected. And very often, if there's tension in the mind, there will be tension in the body and vice versa. So just practice giving the body some space to let go. As the breath settles into its natural rhythm, we'll spend a few moments collecting our attention on our breath.
And with each exhale, feeling ourselves relax a little more deeply and feeling our awareness get a little more precise. The theme of this meditation is good luck, bad luck, who knows. This is an orientation we can take toward our moments. It's one of equanimity, balance. So I just want you to bring to mind an image of a still pond.
This is a great visual to understand the mind of equanimity. Clear, balanced. And as you look at this still pond in your mind, see if you can feel its qualities of clarity, ease. And knowing that the depth of that stillness is not just on the surface of the pond, but all the way down. Can you feel how you might have the potential for that as well? The depth of your being that isn't caught in the superficial thoughts.
It's not completely consumed or compromised by pain, emotions or events. But that is able to stand in your life with steadiness and ease, balance. With each breath, feeling that stillness. Good luck, bad luck. Who knows? This is the mind of a wise being.
Taking life as it comes, blending with it, and then meeting the next moment. So let's take one more deep breath together. In through the nose. And out through the mouth. When you're ready, you can allow your eyes to open again.
Great job. As you go about your day today, see if you can bring this imagery to mind and really embody the qualities of good luck, bad luck, who knows. Thank you for your practice. And until we talk again, take care.
