Hi, and welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about self-respect and how we tolerate disrespect. So I'll start by saying something. The more you respect yourself, the less you will tolerate disrespect from other people. There's an interesting thing that happens when you do start to respect yourself, you become much more sensitive to when other people don't show that same respect to you and much less tolerant of it because you now know what it feels like to receive respect, to appreciate yourself and, and to, to show yourself some level of respect that when you're not getting that externally, the system is just more tuned to what that feels like.
And the process of developing self-respect is something that can take some time. A lot of it just involves figuring out who is the person that I respect myself to be and continuing to live in alignment with that person, we can develop a sense of self-respect from the inside out there. And we can also develop it by showing ourselves more self-compassion, connecting to our inherent sense of self-worth and goodness. So we will do a self compassion and loving kindness meditation today to really drop into that. But one reflection I'd love for you to take into your day is to just assess in your own life of what is your tolerance of disrespect from other people? Do you find that there is a lot of disrespect coming your way, but you tend to tolerate it.
You tend to just let it happen or not put up a boundary. And if so, although it might be a painful reflection, you might have to turn the mirror inward and look at, you know, do you tolerate that disrespect from yourself? Do you tolerate that disrespect from yourself? If so, it's okay. The first stage of all of this is, is always awareness to see how are we relating to ourselves. And sometimes we see some harsh truths. But only when we can come to terms with that truth when we can name it and see it clearly, can we actually start to do anything about it.
And we'll begin that journey today. And you know, if you're listening, you, you have been following along and over to have a practice. So that journey is, is continuing for you. But it's just a reflection to bring into your day to day and just notice what do you tolerate from the outside world and turn the mirror in work or towards you and see, do I also tolerate this from myself? The more we develop a sense of self-respect the less we're going to tolerate disrespect from other people. So thanks so much for your practice.
Let's settle in for today's meditation.
