Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about letting go. Letting go is one of those concepts that many of us struggle with. It can feel really hard to create distance between ourselves and the thing that we're trying to let go of. It can feel as though the part of us that is attached just does not want to soften its grip.

I've been there and I know many people for whom this experience resonates. But I want to share a quote by Jack Kornfield that I think gives us a new way to look at letting go, that is much more accessible. He says, "to let go does not mean to get rid of. To let go means to let be. When we let be with compassion things come and go on their own." To let go does not mean to get rid of, to let go means to let be.

So notice how that shift in language lands for you. For me, there's something much more freeing about letting be. I don't have to push something away. I don't even have to release my grip. I can sort of just relax into whatever is here.

Show it compassion. Give it space. But if it decides to stay in proximity to me, so be it. Sometimes putting so much energy into getting rid of something or trying to let go of something can actually reinforce our attachment to it. So as you go about your day in your life and your meditation practice, if you're trying to let go see if instead you can try letting be.
