Forgiving Our Fearful Self

Personalized support for learning how to integrate mindfulness into your life. Delivered fresh everyday by our world renowned experts. Choose meditation duration:

Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about forgiving our fearful self. In our healing and growth journey we can often get frustrated by patterns that seem to be getting in the way of where we want to go. These patterns are usually related to fear-based younger parts of us that were put in place at a certain point in our life to protect us. They have a very positive intention, but they can be a bit outdated.

By getting angry at these parts, we just strengthen their resolve and we create more internal tension and agitation. So as we bump into these parts that are guiding our life from a place of fear, it's really important to forgive them. They are younger parts that are doing their best to keep us safe. And in many scenarios, they were essential to our survival. These parts need to know that we recognize their role in our wellbeing, but they also need to see that we have new resources to navigate the complexities of life.

That is the only way that they will relinquish their duty. So when they arise, just meet them as you would a fearful child. You can say, "Yes, I know this is scary, but I've got this. I've got you. You'll be okay.

We're safe." And then take a step forward. This is how you can move your life in the direction you want without creating more internal tension and fracturing. Thank you for your practice. Let's settle in for today's meditation.
