Hi, and welcome to your Daily Mindfulness. Today, I'm going to talk about uncertainty and why it can be magical. So as we go about daily life, we tend to habitually look for things to give us a sense of certainty, stability, and security. Our mind loves to hold on to the known and tends to avoid the unknown. So we tend to have kind of fixed routines and habits and ways of doing things.
This also applies to our inner world. You know, we tend to have these very fixed ways of seeing things. We have our opinions, we have our beliefs, we have our judgments and our own inner narrative about ourselves, about others, and about life. So typically we like things to fit in within that framework. We view life through that framework.
As the events and situations unfold in our lives, we tend to create an inner narrative around them. That's consistent with the storylines we already have. So it gives us a sense of certainty of knowing how things are. Though we might constantly try to find feelings of certainty and security in the known though, it's actually when we step into the uncertainty in the unknown that we break out of our habitual ways of being in perceiving, and we tend to feel the most, truly alive and present. You might've noticed that.
While the known dimension of our thinking patterns might feel safe, it's the mystery of awareness that contains our greatest opportunities for freedom and peace of mind. So, if you think back over your life, while certainty is absolutely important to a certain degree, it can also be very stifling, dulling, and kind of limit our growth and possibility for discovering new things. Right. And when we perhaps reflect on those moments, when we felt the most present those moments of awe, wonder and joy, you could probably reflect and see rarely do they come in those moments of certainty. They're often the moments where we actually let go of everything certain and become one with the mystery of the moment.
Perhaps it was just when you were watching a sunrise, listening to a beautiful piece of music and really losing yourself in it. Maybe it was making love or looking into the eyes of somebody, traveling somewhere new. In those moments, you just kind of let the usual thoughts subside and you're open to presence. And often a great feeling of peace and connection emerges in those moments. It's something we can't really totally understand with the mind, but those moments of uncertainty, of not knowing, but simply being are truly magical.
So my invitation for you today is to embrace a little bit more uncertainty, a little bit more of the unknown. You might do this by changing up something in your routine. Um, being willing to soften or see beyond your normal ways of thinking and living, or perhaps taking some time to drop everything for a while and just connect with the mystery and the beauty of life. I hope you enjoy this practice today. And as always, thank you for the work that you're doing and for your presence here with us.
And inviting you to settle in now for today's meditation.
