Hi, and welcome to your Daily Mindfulness. Today. I'm going to talk about the simplicity of letting go. So meditation practice isn't about getting into some special state of becoming someone better. The essence of our practice really is just about letting go.
It's about letting go of all the complexity in the mind and coming back again and again to rest in the simplicity and the fullness and the aliveness of this present moment. So there you are in your practice and you let go, and then the mind goes, yeah, but you need to think about all of these things. And then you let go. And then the mind comes in again, no, but I haven't figured this thing out. I really need to.
And then you let go. And the mind comes in again and says, I can't let go. Now I will once I figure all these things out. And then you let go. The the mind always thinks you need to understand more.
It thinks there must be some big, complicated explanation to it all, some big answer that it hasn't found yet. The mind tries to think, and problem solve its way through the peace or plan its way through the peace or control its way to peace. You know, it thinks maybe if I can just, you know, I can't let go until. It comes in with all of these narratives, but the answer really does lie in just letting go. It's in letting go that we find our way back to what's already here, who we already are and what we already have in this moment.
It's so simple. And yet I know how hard it is to actually practice this because the mind comes in and tries to overcomplicate things and control things again and again. So, if you ever find your mind spinning in meditation, trying to figure things out, things start to feel complicated. Just remember there's nothing complicated about meditation. All it is about is just noticing what the mind is doing, letting go and coming back to the simplicity of the present moment.
And of course, this translates into the rest of life too. After all meditation is really just a microcosm for the macrocosm of our lives. Although we often feel like the answer to the big things in our lives, like finding peace and happiness, knowing what path to take, and it requires you, it feels like it requires more and more thinking and planning and controlling. But the truth is, is that we can often find that deeper wisdom, those deeper answers by simply letting go. This is the essence of training the mind.
This is the essence of cultivating freedom and peace within. Just keep letting go. As always, thank you for your practice and your presence here with us. And now let's settle in for today's meditation.
