Hi, and welcome to your Daily Mindfulness. Today I'm going to talk about the idea of having a mind like a mountain. So if you think about a mountain, it's neither bothered or moved by the conditions that surround it. It's not disturbed by the winter cold or the storms that buffer it, nor is it excited or waiting for the sunshine in summer or the flowers in spring. And this is a really great metaphor for what it means to have this kind of choiceless awareness that we cultivate in mindfulness.
To be free from preference, bias or clinging is to have true stability of mind. And when we think about the qualities of awareness, it's, it's without judgment, it's without desire, it's without any resistance to any conditions. So it's not trying to change anything at all. It's simply observing whatever's arising in this open, accepting and kindly attention. And because of that, there's a sense of freedom, clarity, and stability in the mind.
It doesn't have to do anything. It just rests, allows and embraces what is unconditionally. So I invite you to bring these qualities of a mountain into your meditation today. Remember that when we're training in awareness, we're simply watching, observing and allowing. Our only task is to be fully alive to what's already happening in the moment, no matter what the weather is.
And then to notice whenever we get caught up in the storms or we get caught up in the sunshine and in that moment of noticing to let go of all of that again, and to ground ourselves, once again, in the steadiness and the stillness of awareness itself. And sitting there with the confidence that no matter what arises awareness itself is untouched, unchanging and content with life as it is, no matter what's arising. So we'll explore this more in today's meditation and inviting you to settle in for that now. And as always, thank you for your practice and your presence here with us.
