Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. Today, we're going to talk about receiving feedback. So in life, your personal life, relationships, your professional life, I believe feedback is incredibly important for how we grow. There are certain things that we just can't see within ourselves, no matter how much mindful awareness we might have. We need another person's perspective and we need to hear how other people are perceiving what we're doing, how we're acting, and even our work.
Now there's always a way to deliver feedback that's skillful and isn't coming from a place of extreme judgment. And then, so that might be a topic for a different day. What I want to talk about here is how we can receive that feedback in a way that doesn't lead to cycles of shame and hatred and bracing ourselves against all the things that we perceive now we're doing wrong. Since feedback is important, I think we can use a mindset shift in moments of going into receiving feedback. And then specifically what we can ask ourselves is, how can this feedback spark creative inspiration rather than self-doubt? How can this feedback spark creative inspiration rather than self-doubt? So that's the question that we can ask ourselves.
And by asking that question, we get to meet that moment of feedback and notice the potential of, Oh, they're saying this thing, they're offering critical feedback and now it's making me feel like I'm not doing something well, not doing something good enough. And it can lead quite easily to feelings of self-doubt that could actually have more negative impacts and causing us to not move forward, not continue to do something because now we feel like, well, we're no good, we're not worthy. I won't project that onto you. But I do know sometimes for me, when I do receive difficult feedback, it can be a tough pill to swallow. However, when I recognize feedback in the larger system of who I'm growing into and that I can not grow into that person without getting this feedback, then that allows me to ask this question of, well, how can this feedback actually spark creative inspiration, where I can take it in and then go to my, my creativity engine and say, all right, given this, what can we do differently? How can this look differently? How can we respond in the future to this differently? And when I look at it through the lens of creative inspiration, it becomes more playful and exciting.
It doesn't necessarily have to be something that I have to store in and think I'm no good and, I'm not worthy. And why am I even trying in the first place? Right. That's one direction it could go. But if you catch that moment and say, okay, this is here, let's use this to spark creative inspiration. Well, that will condition a whole other series of thoughts and emotions that tend to be much more useful and generative.
So next time before you go into receiving free feedback or in the moment of it receiving feedback, ask yourself how can this feed back spark creative inspiration rather than self-doubt. Hopefully that helps. Thank you for your practice and let's settle in for today's meditation.
