How to Fully Let Go

Personalized support for learning how to integrate mindfulness into your life. Delivered fresh everyday by our world renowned experts. Choose meditation duration:

Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness, In today's session, I want to talk about how that which we touched deeply, we can fully let go. That, which we touched deeply, we can fully let go. I find this to be a topic that is hard to talk about conceptually. I can't really point to any science that shows why this is true. All I can point to is my own anecdotal experience and what seems to be a law of how the mind works in relationship to the human experience.

I posted this to a group of mine recently and wanted to get their perspectives on like does this, does this resonate? Does the idea that that which we touch deeply, we can fully let go? Does that resonate with your experience? And everyone had an experience that was aligned with this, where they could feel into the truth of it. There was one that stood out that I'll share with you. It was a gentleman who said he had been experiencing a lot of numbness in his life. And his tendency in relationship to the numbness was to, to try to spring out of it and do something or feel better or spring into action, because it just felt like, oh, I'm, I'm feeling depressed or there's something wrong with me, or I have to overcome this numbness. But he tried a different orientation to it.

He allowed himself to really open up to it, to sit with it, to just be with the numbness. And once he did, he was able to touch it deeply and touch it in the sense of allow himself to feel it fully. And when that happened, he said it released, but then led to this pent up frustration that had been there beneath the surface that the numbness was somewhat blocking him to, which then when that was fully experienced led to a feeling of relief. And then tears. And then the rest of him opened up and there was this beautiful experience of completion and resolution.

Like you just cycled through a lot of internal stuff that didn't get the space to be experienced. You know, all emotions are like a sine wave. They arise and they pass. You could say that about most aspects of our experience, that the direct experience of them. A thought arises and it passes.

Sensations arise and they shift and they pass. Anything in the natural world has this experience of arising and passing. But one of the things that gets in the way of that passing is all of our ideas about what we should be experiencing, that it shouldn't be here, that we want to be experiencing something else. So my invitation from this daily mindfulness, is just to look at some of the things in your life that are maybe frustrating that you're running from, trying to avoid or trying to overcome. And what would it look like instead to take this relationship of, I need to get through this to take the relationship of, can I just touch this deeply and fully.

We don't want to do this with everything. Alone, that is. There are some experiences, maybe deep traumas that we would want to go into this with support. And that's where a therapist comes in. But a lot of our experiences, pain from an argument that happened earlier in the day, decision we made that we're feeling confusion about, we can make space for ourselves and we have the resources to hold that by going into it.

And I think what you'll find as an interesting phenomena of the mind and of the body is that we, when we do touch something deeply in this way, it has the ability to release. And now we can transition into the next moment more fully and with a greater sense of wholeness. Thank you for your practice. Let's settle into today's meditation.
