Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about getting things done more effectively. As I often like to do in these daily mindfulness videos, I'll start with a statement. Clearly delineating what you will not do in any given moment, frees your attention to fully engage in what you are doing. In my opinion, a long to-do list is not the hindrance to our performance.
It's often our ambiguity around what we should be doing in this moment. We have so many things going on that even when we're working on a task, we are often questioning, is this where I should be putting my time right now? What about this? And so our attention is just dispersed. Sometimes we need to really outline for ourselves. All right, these are all the important things, but right now I'm working on this and I am not working on these things. By telling the mind that we are not doing this right now, it frees up that mental attention that would often be thinking about those things to fully immerse in what you're doing in this moment.
You can even take this into your meditation practice, which is a temporary form of renunciation. Like for this five minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, I'm not doing it. I'm not going to be texting this person. I'm not going to be having these calls. I'm not going to be doing business type stuff or parenting.
I am just here to practice. And reminding your mind of that can just free up the energy to be fully there. So try this perspective out. Thank you for your practice and let's settle in for today's meditation.
