Hello, and welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about how to find micro moments of calm in seemingly unending chaos. So I'd like to share a story to begin. A number of years ago, I got into hot yoga. If you're unfamiliar with hot yoga, it's essentially yoga in 105 degree heat.
It's intense. And for me, starting out, this was a very new experience. I was sweating a lot. I was exhausted. My heart was beating and there weren't many opportunities to take breaks.
For me, it just felt like 90 minutes of pure torture. And so I'd be doing all the poses, the warrior poses, downward dogs. And I just remember getting to the end of that and being utterly exhausted. In fact, a weekend, I was like, you know, there's no way I can keep this up. And I tell you about two weeks into the experience of hot yoga, as a survival mechanism I realized I had to find certain moments throughout the 90 minutes for me to relax.
Otherwise, I wasn't going to be able to continue to do this. And I found that halfway through the session, we were doing this one pose called Cobra pose, which for me was tough at the time. You have to hold your whole body up. It's strenuous on the lower back and mid back. And so I would do that pose, but then the instructor would say, okay, relax.
And we'd get about 10 seconds of relaxation. But during those 10 seconds, what my mind typically would do is already start thinking about the next Cobra pose I'd have to do. And I'm like, Oh man, this is going to be awful. I don't want to do this. I hate yoga.
I hate the instructor. And so here I had these small moments where it actually could relax, but I was creating more stress for myself. Once I saw myself doing that. I said, let me actually take advantage of these 10 seconds. And so I did.
I do the Cobra pose. The instructor would say, okay, relax for 10 seconds. And I would drink those 10 seconds in. I'd let my body completely melt into the mat, I'd I take a deep breath, I wouldn't think about the next pose, and I would really relax into it. Then I go into the next Cobra.
And I'd be frustrated with it, but we get another ten second break. And I learned to find these micro moments throughout the practice that really rejuvenated me for the rest of the practice. So I'm not sure what you're going through in your life, but, I'm sure you can resonate with going through days that just feel very intense. And even though you might not have long stretches to relax, I encourage you to find those micro moments where you can let go. Even if it's just 10 seconds or the short period of time you get in the bathroom.
Those little opportunities can help rejuvenate you for the rest of your day and all of the things that you're trying to do. Thank you for your practice. I'll talk to you in the meditation and take care.
