Hi, welcome back to your Daily Mindfulness. In today's session, we're going to talk about becoming rich and famous. Jim Carrey famously said, "I think everyone should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it's not the answer." Now, these are some big words by Jim Carey, but it's something that I've heard from many people who from the outside seemed to have it all. One way to feel into the potential truth of what Jim is pointing to is by looking back on your own life to times when you really wanted something, thinking once I have this or get there, or I'm that kind of person, things will really come together for me. And think to a specific scenario where you eventually got what you most craved.

Did it give you that lasting satisfaction you thought it would? Do you no longer suffer? Do you no longer wish for something bigger, better or more wonderful in your life? Chances are no. So where does the treadmill end? This is by no means to suggest that reaching certain goals and setting certain things up in our life can't improve our life. It can, and it can also often have a lasting impact on our wellbeing. But I've yet to see a case where something offers permanent satisfaction. And this seems to be even more true when it comes to things like fame and money, which a lot of us tend to subconsciously chase.

So here's a practice in this moment. Notice that feeling you have of longing for future moment, thinking that's where your refuge will be. Take a breath, and feel into being here right now. This moment of a liveliness. It might not have everything you want, but can you feel the subtle goodness of being alive? The sweetness of this breath? And can you even reflect on the small things that you appreciate about yourself and your life? We can recondition our mind to find the happiness that we're chasing right here and right now, It's a practice, but it's possible and you're doing the work.
