Hi, and welcome to your Daily Mindfulness. Today I'm going to talk about finding your own true North. So everyday life can be distracting and demanding and we can easily get caught up in just going through the motions of our daily routines and to do lists. If we're not orienting our life around our own true North, that is by our own values and purpose, then we may end up being really busy. You know, get up, eat breakfast, commute, go to work, pay the bills, have a drink, watch TV, go to bed.
Repeat the next day. But life actually doesn't feel that fulfilling or meaningful. In fact, it can start to feel a bit empty or hollow if we're just going through the motions. By getting clear on what our true North is, what really matters to us. We can live a life full of purpose, passion, and love.
So what's the light that can guide you through the fog of distraction and automaticity, both within and without. What's your true North? This is what I invite you to explore and get clearer on today. So I have a little bit of a project for you today. See if you can find some time to set aside today, that could be as little as five minutes, 10 minutes, or it could be as long as an hour or two, but just take some time alone to settle yourself, be really present, maybe have a cup of tea and just contemplate the question. What is the most important thing in my life? What's my true North.
Or, you might like to ask yourself a question, like, what is it that really matters above all else? So just asking this question and seeing what comes to you, just let this be a kind of play and creative exploration. The answer might be loud and clear. It might come as a single word, like love family, kindness, spirituality. Or it might come in a longer form. It might even come to you in the form of just like a wordless inner knowing.
You might like to write some answers down, or you might just like to be in silent contemplation with this question. You might only have one main theme that comes to you as an answer, or you might have different aspects that sort of interlink into being your true North. Once you have an idea of what your true North is, you can set your course in that direction daily. So just consider how you can keep your true North in mind over time. Maybe you could place a sticky note on your desk.
Maybe, so what I do personally, you could make a ritual like this. I have a daily ritual where I recite a statement about my true North after meditation. I just do that silently to myself. And it only takes me a minute or two. But this powerful short, daily ritual primes my mind to stay focused on what truly matters to me deep in my heart and the kind of person that I want to be every day.
So moment after moment of our lives, we're always choosing actions and speech that are moving us in one direction or another. And the more you follow your true North in small and big ways each day, the more, you deliberately set that inner compass towards a rich, full and meaningful life. So enjoy the practice.
