Walking in the dark

We all have our traumas and face suffering. I have many from my childhood, and basically, I grew up alone. The most impactful trauma in my life happened in December 2020, when I lost the love of my life to suicide and simultaneously lost his 2 small kids to his ex-wife.

I was missing so much in the world

In my mind, I lost my entire family, and I had no reason to live. I had been in therapy for months when I found one of Cory's (a teacher) retreats, which hugely resonated with me. After the retreat, I learned about the app. I joined, and it quickly became part of my daily life. I had no idea I was missing so much in the world.

Learning that thoughts, emotions, and sensations will pass has been extremely helpful for me. It has helped me save my own life, because it has assisted me in finding myself again. Learning that thoughts, emotions, and sensations will pass and you can just observe them was so empowering for me. Building mindfulness practices into my daily life helps me stay grounded in my body and in my awareness. I love the daily mindfulness practices and meditations, which I religiously use on a daily basis.

Advice I would give to someone starting out with mindfulness and how to tackle life with mindfulness is:

Be patient with yourself. Grief is real and normal, but you can continue to walk in the dark or be opened up to a whole new beautiful world right in your own mind. It’s your choice.
